Position Overview
We are looking for a highly motivated and experienced Application Engineer – Optical Data Communication to join our U.S. team. In this role, you will engage with customers, partners, and internal stakeholders to support the development, integration, and adoption of cutting-edge, micro-emitter-based high-speed optical data links.
Key Responsibilities
- Customer Engagement: Serve as the primary technical contact for key customers, supporting the successful design-in and integration of ams OSRAM products.
- Partnership & Ecosystem Management: Build and maintain strong relationships with partners across the optical datacom ecosystem, including module vendors, system integrators, and standards organizations.
- Product Definition: Collaborate with system engineering to analyze customer requirements and translate them into product specifications for micro-emitter transceivers.
- Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with global application engineering, product marketing, and system engineering teams to align system insights with product development.
- Sales Support: Partner with the U.S. sales team to provide technical expertise, drive design wins, and contribute to business growth.
- Technical Representation: Represent ams OSRAM in technical discussions, customer meetings, and industry forums.
What we look for
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Optoelectronics, Physics, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in optical transceiver development or application engineering within the optical datacom industry.
- Proven experience working with customers and partners in a technical role.
- Strong knowledge of optical data transmission principles, emitter technologies, and system-level integration.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Willingness to travel within the U.S. and occasionally internationally up to 30%.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience with companies specializing in optical transceivers or datacom modules.
- Familiarity with industry standards such as Ethernet, Fibre Channel, or other optical communication protocols.
- Experience with micro-emitter technologies and their use in short-reach optical links.
